The Obafemi Awolowo Institute of Government and Public Policy is a non-profit, independent think tank and research institute situated along the beautiful coastline of Lagos State. It aims to encourage innovative thinking and visionary intellectual pursuits capable of solving the problems of governance by conducting research, training, policy engagement and outreach programmes on socio-political and economic conditions of Nigeria in particular and Africa in general.
Tucked away in the lush surroundings of Lekki Town, far from the city, the Institute boasts a resource centre, cabana, natural lake and a Museum to celebrate and document the life of one of Africa’s most insightful and progressive leaders, democrats, and proponents of good governance in the 20th Century, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and the ideas, issues and events of his generation. The Museum is currently located in the bungalow in which Chief Awolowo, then Leader of the Opposition in the Federal Parliament, was detained by the Federal authorities in the early 1960s in the wake of the celebrated treasonable felony trials involving him and other leaders of the Yoruba West and the Action Group at a very volatile era in the life of the then new nation. There is no better location to enjoy leisure, retreat, and business activities while catching up with Nigerian History.
