Welcome

Welcome to the Obafemi Awolowo Institute of Government and Public Policy, a non-profit, independent think tank and research institute situated along the beautiful coastline of Lagos State. It is the aim of the Institute to encourage innovative thinking and visionary intellectual pursuits capable of meeting the challenges of governance, by conducting research, training, policy engagement and outreach programmes on socio-political and economic conditions of Nigeria in particular and Africa in general.

Tucked away in the lush surroundings of Lekki, far away from the city hustle, the institute boasts a resource centre, cabana, natural lake and a Museum dedicated to the codification and dissemination of the ideas and principles of democracy and good governance as illustrated by the life and work of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, one of Nigeria’s Founding Fathers and the Leader of the Yoruba Nation. The Museum is currently located in the bungalow in which Chief Awolowo, then Leader of the Opposition in the Federal Parliament, was detained in the early 1960s during his trial on charges of treasonable felony at a very volatile era in the then new nation. There is no better location to enjoy great leisure, retreat, reflection, research and business activities or catch up with Nigerian History.
